2D solar cell design based on transition metal dichalcogenides promises 12.87% efficiency

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania developed a 2D solar cell based on TMDCs with a superlattice structure for increased solar absorption. The lightweight and flexible cells have applications in aerospace, architecture, electric vehicles, and wearable electronics. The innovative design with separate contacts achieved a high power conversion efficiency of 12.87%, outperforming traditional 2D TMDC solar cells.
