Throughout July, wildfires in Canada and the US West Coast and unstable cloud cover in the central and eastern United States affected irradiance across North America. Analysis using the Solcast API revealed reduced clearsky irradiance levels due to smoke-related aerosols and cloud cover, impacting regions like the Gulf Coast, East Coast, and the Midwest. Stable atmospheric conditions in the West Coast increased irradiance. Aerosols from the fires spread across the continent, impacting irradiance levels. Additionally, a strong upper-atmosphere dipole caused clear conditions in the West Coast and unstable conditions in the East Coast. Solcast tracks clouds and aerosols using satellite data and AI/ML algorithms.
