The growth of hybrid power plants combining utility-scale wind/solar generating capacity with batteries is driven by improving battery technology and renewable generation. This surge of interest is reflected in operational and proposed hybrid plants in the United States. PV+storage plants are the most common, providing resource adequacy and energy arbitrage capabilities. Developer interest in hybridisation is strong, with significant growth in hybrid plants and storage capacity. Despite standalone storage having access to the Investment Tax Credit, hybrid plant proposals continue to grow. Notable interest in PV+storage hybrids is seen in California due to capacity needs and wholesale pricing patterns. PPA prices for PV+storage are increasing, indicating continued development interest.
