Battery energy storage facility backed

The building of a battery energy storage facility has been recommended for approval in Sunderland. The facility would store energy generated by wind and solar panels to release during periods of extreme demand. Plans include control rooms, storage units, and around 28 battery storage containers. If approved, the facility would last 35 years. Similar schemes have faced rejection due to fire safety concerns. Battery storage plants are increasingly common in the UK.
