Hecate Energy has selected Bechtel to lead the design and construction of the 360MW(dc) Sunfish Solar 2 PV project in Michigan. Construction is set to begin later this year, with the scheme expected to create more than 350 construction jobs at peak. It is the most progressed project in Hecate’s 1GW pipeline. Located in Calhoun County, the Sunfish development will be one of the largest solar facilities in the state, supporting Michigan’s commitment to generate 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. The scheme will be completed in 2026 and will feature 620,000 bifacial solar panels across 1300 acres. Bechtel will design, construct, and commission the facility, using autonomous technologies to enhance project delivery. Bechtel’s general manager of renewables & clean power Scott Austin and Hecate Energy chief technology officer and executive vice president of engineering, procurement, and construction Fazli Qadir expressed their commitment to a cleaner, greener future and long-term benefits for electricity consumers.
