BOEM publishes Final EA for Maine wind lease

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has made available its Final Environmental Assessment (EA) for an offshore wind research lease in the Gulf of Maine. The Final EA found no significant impact on the environment, leading to the offer of the research lease to Maine. The Department of the Interior has approved multiple offshore wind projects since the Biden-Harris administration began. Elizabeth Klein, the BOEM Director, highlighted the potential of floating wind technology in the Gulf of Maine. State authorities are interested in researching floating offshore wind energy technology at a site off the coast of Maine.
