Bulgaria to replace broken turbines in Chaira pumped storage hydropower plant

The Bulgarian state-owned National Electricity Co. (NEK) launched a tender for the supply and replacement of two out of four turbines in the Chaira pumped storage hydropower plant, the biggest in Southeastern Europe. NEK is heavily focusing on energy storage in its decarbonization efforts, especially considering recent breakdowns at the facility. Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corp. is set to participate in the replacement of turbines at Chaira, as they were the original equipment manufacturer.
