C-bank cuts interest rate to 6.75% for the first time in the last year and a half

The National Bank of Romania has reduced the monetary policy interest rate to 6.75% per year from 7% per year. The decision was made to stimulate economic activity and combat inflation. The annual inflation rate has been decreasing due to various factors such as the cheapening of energy, especially natural gas, and the decline in food prices. Economic activity in Romania grew by 0.4% in the first quarter of 2024.
