California has significantly increased its battery capacity, reaching 10,379 MW, a 1250% jump from 2019. This growth is part of the state's strategy to achieve 100% clean electricity by 2045. Major developments include plans to add over 6,800 MW of battery power this year, primarily through four-hour lithium-ion systems. The capacity of batteries to supply the grid reached new records, surpassing other energy sources like gas and nuclear. The CAISO's latest $6.1 billion transmission plan aims to facilitate 38 GW of new solar capacity, emphasizing enhanced connectivity for battery projects.
