The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has released a proposed decision for central procurement of up to 7600MW of offshore wind energy by 2037, with three competitive solicitations rounds starting in 2027. The decision is seen as a critical step by the American Clean Power Association to establish an offshore wind industry on the US Pacific coast. Molly Croll from the Association commented on the importance of the proposed decision in promoting California's clean energy, reliability, and economic development goals. The CPUC's decision is based on AB 1373, which authorized central procurement of offshore wind and other energy resources, following approvals from the California Energy Commission and the California Independent System Operator for integrating offshore wind into the state's grid.
