ESS NewsChina has connected to the grid its first large-scale standalone flywheel energy storage project in Shanxi Province. The Dinglun Flywheel Energy Storage Power Station has a power output of 30 MW and is equipped with 120 high-speed magnetic levitation flywheel units. The facility represents a pioneering use of a semi-buried underground well system for operation and maintenance. Flywheel energy storage technology works by accelerating a rotor to a very high speed. Compared to other technologies, flywheel storage offers higher energy and power density, efficiency, and rapid response.
