China Three Gorges to build 16 GW renewables cluster in Inner Mongolia

China Three Gorges Renewables, a unit of state-owned China Three Gorges Corp., plans to build a giant renewable energy cluster in Kubuqi Desert, Ordos, Inner Mongolia. The $11 billion project will consist of various renewable energy sources, including PV, wind, solar thermal, and coal-fired power, along with an energy storage system. Construction is set to start in September 2024 with completion by June 2027, aiming to transmit electricity to multiple regions in China.
