A group of researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences achieved a high efficiency of 14.6% in a kesterite solar cell. The research focused on suppressing defect-induced charge loss in CZTSSe absorber material using a kinetics-based approach with multi-elemental alloying. This approach led to the formulation of ordered kesterite phase, improving efficiency. The solar cell structure included SLG substrate, Mo coating, CdS buffer layer, ZnO window layer, ITO layer, and MgF2 antireflective coating. The certified efficiency was 14.2%.
