Chinese solar cell prices fall amid oversupply

Prices in the Chinese cell market were assessed lower week-to-week reflecting buy-sell indications. Market activity remained quiet with expectations of further price declines. China produced 310 GW of cells in the first half of 2024, despite attempts to curtail oversupply. Cell exports rose, but achieved sales prices were lower, leading to tighter margins for manufacturers. The industry faces persistent low prices throughout the solar value chain. Cell manufacturers are cutting production rates to restore market balance.
