Researchers from EPFL and CSEM analyzed colored crystalline silicon PV module technologies, suppliers, and success factors for visually appealing building integrated PV. Manufacturers use various methods to produce colored modules with techniques like colored cover glass, colored encapsulants, and semi-transparent active layers. Sixteen color BIPV technology suppliers from Europe, U.S., and China are profiled. Standardization challenges and success factors like reliability, safety, and targeting mid-rise buildings were discussed. The review emphasizes the economic and environmental advantages of BIPV.
