ContourGlobal fires almost all workers from its coal plant in Bulgaria

The headcount at the ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria is dropping to just 35 people due to low electricity prices. Other coal plants in Europe are facing challenges as market forces favor renewables. ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 struggled to survive in the open market and had to lay off 160 employees. State-owned Maritsa East 2 received a one-year lifeline from the government. The coal plant found it difficult to break even after the contract with NEK expired.
