As prices of raw materials continue to fall, battery cell costs are facing downward pressure. Lithium carbonate prices hit a new historic low in August, triggering declines in prices for cathodes, electrolytes, and other battery components. Demand for grid-scale energy storage system battery cells is improving, with a trend towards larger capacity cells. Prices for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage cells and EV cells have decreased, while the oversupply of lithium is expected to continue affecting prices. Uncertainties remain for China’s NEV sector due to trade risks from tariffs in overseas markets. Meanwhile, European researchers have unveiled a solid-state battery with high energy density.
