Denmark ends using coal as UK is set to complete its exit

Denmark has shut down its last coal power plant, and the United Kingdom is next in line. The list of European countries with such facilities has drastically shrunk. Market forces have accelerated coal phaseouts. Denmark, known for its high share of wind power, is now coal-free in its electricity generation sector. Slovakia and Slovenia have also completed their coal phaseouts. Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania have coal phaseout deadlines extended past 2030. Countries like Germany, Poland, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, and Turkey are among the few remaining in Europe still generating power from coal.
