Duke Energy completes 320-MW expansion of pumped-storage plant

Duke Energy Corp has completed the upgrade of the Bad Creek pumped-storage hydro plant in South Carolina, enhancing its capacity by 320 MW to reach 1,680 MW. The project, which began in 2020, finalised in April 2023, enabling the facility to power over 1.3 million homes. Operating since 1991, the plant is under consideration for relicensing and a potential addition of a second powerhouse by 2034.
