Researchers at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar found that vertical east-west-oriented bifacial PV installations in desert climates can increase power generation by up to 9.2%. The study aimed to reduce cleaning costs and levelized cost of energy. Tests revealed that vertical modules had negligible soiling losses compared to tilted modules over three years, with vertical modules generating up to 9.2% more energy during summer. The researchers propose that vertical PV installations are a viable alternative in desert climates.
