EC urges Romania to tighten fiscal policy, speed up RRP reforms

Romania needs to tighten its fiscal policy and accelerate the implementation of cohesion policy programmes and the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), including the REPowerEU chapter, as recommended by the European Commission. The Commission advised Romania to limit its net expenditure growth to reduce the general government deficit towards the reference value of 3% of GDP. Additionally, Romania should strengthen its administrative capacity, ensure effective governance, and take action to address social housing, social services, and development of smaller urban areas. Moreover, considering the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform initiative would be beneficial for boosting investments and improving competitiveness in critical technology sectors.
