First Solar opens US research facility

First Solar, a thin-film solar module producer, has commissioned a new R&D innovation center in Lake Township, Ohio. The Jim Nolan Center for Solar Innovation is the largest facility of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. First Solar is a leader in CdTe technology and achieved a 23.1% efficient CdTe cell, a new world record. The company plans to invest around half a billion dollars in R&D and create about 300 new jobs by 2025. They are also involved in perovskite solar development.
