FuturEnergy Ireland has submitted a planning application for its first battery storage project, Ballynahone Energy Storage, utilizing iron-air battery technology to store renewable energy and alleviate grid congestion. The technology involves reversible rusting to convert iron to rust and vice versa, enabling energy absorption and release. The project aims to help meet Ireland's decarbonisation targets and enable affordable power system decarbonisation.
