Idaho Power BESS set for regulatory approval despite uncertainty over project, augmentation costs

A team of technical staff from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission has recommended the approval of Idaho Power's 150MW BESS project at Boise Bench substation despite concerns over its economics. Idaho Power initiated this project to address the 236MW capacity deficit anticipated in 2026. The project is part of a selection process that includes other energy projects to meet the 2026 deficit. The technical team noted uncertainties regarding the cost-effectiveness of the project and suggested caps on future cost recovery. Additionally, there were discussions on augmentation costs and the necessity of Idaho Power to justify any potential exceeding of set caps.
