A group of scientists from the University of Glasgow proposed using lightweight orbiting reflectors powered by photovoltaics to enhance electricity generation in terrestrial solar power plants on Earth. They developed a reference architecture for the orbiting solar reflectors and assessed the breakeven conditions of the systems. The reflectors are designed to be hexagonal with a diameter of approximately 1 km, utilizing multiple mirrors and control moment gyroscope rotors. The researchers also considered the $20 million Sun Cable project in Australia as an example for the technology.
