India overtakes China to become world’s largest electric 3-wheeler market

In 2023, one in five three-wheelers sold globally was electric, with nearly 60% of these sales occurring in India, as reported by the IEA. The increase in India's electric three-wheeler (e-3W) sales is largely attributed to the FAME II government subsidies which reduced the cost of ownership. The global market for electric 3Ws saw nearly 1 million units sold, marking a 30% increase from the previous year, with China and India dominating the market. China also led in electric two-wheeler (2W) sales with nearly 6 million units.
