IRENA’s La Camera: Renewables must grow at higher speed, scale

Renewable electricity capacity in the world grew 14% last year, reaching 3,865 GW in 2023. Solar energy led the segment, followed by hydropower, wind, and bioenergy. IRENA emphasized the need for a 16.4% growth rate annually to triple renewables by 2030. The Director-General, Francesco La Camera, warned of concentration patterns in geography.
