The Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) has developed an advanced 8 kW solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) capable of producing over 5 kg of hydrogen per day. This new technology utilizes a press forming method for creating separator plates, enhancing manufacturing efficiency by allowing the production of over 1,000 plates per day. The SOEC technology is noted for its high efficiency, potentially reducing electricity consumption by over 25% in large-scale applications such as nuclear power plants and steel mills. KIER is collaborating with Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Bumhan Industries to further enhance this technology.
