National Grid Electricity System Operator has proposed a plan to connect floating offshore wind capacity in the Celtic Sea to the grid. The plan involves connecting 3GW to locations in South Wales and up to 1.5GW to the South West of England, with specific offshore wind Project Development Areas (PDAs) having dedicated grid connections. The proposal includes HVDC and HVAC connections to new nodes in South Wales, Carmarthenshire, and North Devon. The design aims to cater to future energy developments and coordinate with renewable capacity projects, potentially powering four million homes.
