New grid connection rules in Romania

Romania’s National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has approved a competitive, auction-based mechanism for grid connections of new plants of at least 5 MW, starting from January 1, 2026. The methodology includes yearly auctions, 10-year allocation periods, and grid capacity determination by Transelectrica. Immediate changes include new financial guarantee rules. Other changes cover grid calculations, building permit extensions, and termination of ongoing grid connection applications.
