New research claims PV-linked residential heat pumps offer short payback periods in northern China

Scientists at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies analyzed China's Whole County PV pilot program to examine the economics of heat pump adoption in connection with solar power generation. The study revealed increased sales of air-source heat pumps in China but highlighted challenges in Severe Cold regions. Their economic analysis showed that northern provinces had the greatest benefit from solar-powered heat pumps, while in southern regions, the adoption was deemed uneconomical.
