The Canadian province of Ontario is planning a large-scale competitive energy procurement exercise known as the Second Long-Term Procurement (LT2). The LT2 is expected to consist of new bioenergy, solar, and wind projects. Ontario's minister of energy and electrification, Stephen Lecce, emphasized the importance of transparency, competition, and cost-effectiveness in energy procurement. The procurement design framework is expected by Sept. 20, 2024, with procurement completion targeted by Feb. 28, 2026. The LT2 aims to incentivize projects in northern Ontario while avoiding prime agricultural areas and specialty crop areas.
