Operating heat pumps in residential complexes via reinforcement learning

A German research group proposed using reinforcement learning (RL) to optimize the utilization of heat pumps for space heating in big apartment complexes. They created an environment modeling of a residential heat network and trained it with a proximal policy optimization algorithm. The RL-based operational management approach aims to reduce electricity costs and total energy consumption while maintaining comfort levels for residents.
