A group of researchers from Abdou Moumouni University in Niger proposed using photovoltaic energy to power evaporative cooling greenhouses in Africa's Sahel region. They compared commercially available Celdek pads (C-pads) with locally-made Hyphaene thebaica fiber pads (HF-pads) in the experimental setup located in southwest Niger. The HF-pad showed superior cooling performance with a COP of 9, CER of 5, and the lowest outlet temperature of 20.0 C.
