A unique planned mixed-use neighborhood called Hillside East in South Burlington, Vermont, consisting of 155 solar homes with Tesla Powerwall batteries and rooftop solar systems charged by 8 kW, along with a community microgrid. The neighborhood features single-family, multi-family, and affordable homes equipped with energy-efficient systems. Senator Welch, Governor Phil Scott, construction firm O’Brien Brothers, and GMP's Mari McClure participated in a groundbreaking celebration. The project aims to address the housing shortage and climate crisis by providing 100% fossil fuel-free homes. The development includes all-electric homes with heat pump systems, appliances, EV chargers, and Span Drive panels for energy monitoring. Residents will pay a monthly fee for the resiliency package. GMP, a B Corporation utility with 100% carbon-free energy mix, aims to bring grid resilience and sustainability to the community.
