A group of researchers at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China developed a new pontoon-truss floating structure for offshore floating PV with high stability and several advantages compared to conventional semi-submersible structures. The design features high freeboard to avoid wave slamming, a rope-type multi-module connection, and a steel truss for reducing wave run-up. The system was tested and showed exceptional stability within 10 degrees inclination angles.
