Researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago have developed a new method using solar power and agricultural waste to produce hydrogen fuel, reducing energy requirements by 600%. The method involves using biochar to lower electricity needs for water electrolysis, with cow manure proving to be the most effective input. Orochem Technologies Inc. sponsored the research and holds patents on the process, with plans for larger scale testing.
