Regulator approves Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet’s first project in 1GW India BESS pipeline

Regulatory approval has been granted in India for the country’s first commercial standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The project is developed by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), infrastructure investor IndiGrid, and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL). The BESS will be deployed at a strategic location aimed at increasing the uptake of variable renewable energy on the grid network. The project demonstrates the viability of battery energy storage solutions and sets a new standard for affordability in the energy sector.
