Renewable energy benefits surpass estimates, says Berkeley Lab

Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have developed a new methodology for estimating the value of climate and air quality benefits from wind and solar generation. By analyzing data from 2019 to 2022, they concluded that wind and solar generation in the United States provided $249 billion of climate and air quality health benefits. The methodology considered emissions from natural gas- and coal-fired plants, highlighting the importance of accounting for these impacts in evaluating renewable energy's benefits.
