Renewable energy benefits surpass estimates, says Berkeley Lab

Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory developed a new methodology to estimate the value of climate and air quality benefits from wind and solar generation. They found wind and solar generation provided $249 billion of benefits over the period of 2019 to 2022. The analysis compared the economics of renewable energy with fossil-fuel sources and concluded that renewable generation has higher benefits than previously estimated. The study could help increase wind and solar penetration in the United States and potentially in other regions around the world.
