Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory developed a new methodology to estimate the value of climate and air quality benefits from wind and solar generation. Their analysis concluded wind and solar provided $249 billion in benefits from 2019 to 2022 by offsetting CO2, SO2, and NOx emissions from fossil fuels. The methodology involved breaking the U.S. into regions and calculating daily generation and emissions averages. The study shows higher health benefits than previously estimated, supporting increased wind and solar penetration.
