Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have developed a new methodology for estimating the value of climate and air quality benefits from wind and solar generation in the United States. They concluded that wind and solar generation provided $249 billion of benefits over the period 2019-2022. The methodology accounts for emissions from natural gas- and coal-fired plants and shows that renewable generation offsets CO2, SO2, and NOx emissions, resulting in significant health benefits.
