'Renewable generation up 13% in 2023'

Renewable generation, excluding hydro, reached a record high of 4,748TWh in 2023, driven by wind and solar. China led in renewable generation additions, overtaking Europe on per capita energy basis. Global energy consumption hit a record high, with fossil fuel consumption also at peak levels. Emissions surpassed 40 gigatonnes of CO2 for the first time, highlighting the urgency to address climate change.
