'Renewable generation up 13% in 2023'

Renewable generation, excluding hydro, reached a record global high in 2023, driven by wind and solar energy. China led in renewable generation additions, surpassing Europe. Global energy consumption and fossil fuel consumption both hit record highs. Emissions from energy also rose significantly, exceeding 40 gigatonnes of CO2 for the first time. The Energy Institute President, Juliet Davenport, highlighted the importance of energy in human progress and survival, amidst increasing global temperatures and severe impacts of climate change.
