An international research team has investigated the use of recyclable biomass-digested polymers for the manufacturing of coating and encapsulants for PV cells. The digestate polymers are materials released during anaerobic digestion processes, which can be used for electricity generation, heating, and biofuels. The researchers have tested cells coated with digestate polymers, namely the EcoPolyBlend (EPB) and the NanoBioCelluSynth (NBCS). The EPB offers a 2% increase in power output with a 5-year lifespan, while the NBCS results in a 10% increase but requires a thicker layer and has a three-year lifespan. The study emphasizes the environmental impact and performance of these polymers under different environmental conditions.
