The steel industry in the European Union is facing competition in the energy transition. Romania needs to support its steel producers to remain competitive. Matthew Vogel from Liberty Steel emphasizes the importance of cheap energy sources, infrastructure, and access to renewable energy for survival in the steel market. He suggests focusing on large assets and energy consumers. Galati requires 450 MW for green steel production, and plans to increase to over 2 GW with hydrogen. A 50 MW solar plant will be operational in Galati soon.
