Rompetrol contests at the Constitutional Court the solidarity surcharge imposed to oil companies

Rompetrol Rafinare, operator of Petromidia and Vega refineries, contested the solidarity surcharge imposed on oil companies in Romania at the Constitutional Court. The surcharge of 60% on 'excessive profits' was based on an EU Regulation. Rompetrol pursued legal actions, including a refund of almost 580 million lei. They also requested referral to CJEU, which was rejected. The article discusses the budget receipts from the solidarity contribution and the compensation to energy suppliers due to high energy prices.
