Serbia picks EDF, Egis for study on introduction of nuclear energy

The Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia awarded a contract to French state-owned energy utility EDF and engineering company Egis Industries for a preliminary technical study on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This study aims to assess the potential for developing civil nuclear programs in Serbia and includes recommendations for nuclear energy technologies. Several countries in Southeastern Europe are planning to build nuclear plants and explore advanced technologies like small modular reactors (SMRs). President Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia emphasized the need for large and small nuclear plants to meet the increasing electricity demand.
