Serbia to get Japanese financing for Bistrica RHPP project

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has committed to financing the construction of the 628 MW Bistrica reversible hydro power plant in Western Serbia, with a projected start of preparatory works by 2025. The plant, crucial for energy storage and balance, is expected to be complete by 2031. The initiative, significant for decarbonisation and energy security in Serbia and the region, involves Serbian state-owned utility EPS, seeking a designer for the project. The plant will feature four units aiming to generate approximately 1,100 GWh annually.
