Solar dominates new US capacity

Solar provided nearly 87% of all new capacity in the first quarter of 2024 in the US. FERC's report highlights the dominance of solar in new electrical generating capacity additions, outperforming other sources like wind and natural gas. Solar and wind together now represent over a fifth of the nation's installed utility-scale generating capacity, with renewables claiming close to 30% of total US utility-scale generating capacity.
